Termination of Employment
Can one be terminated now?
First we must understand what termination encompasses;
1. End of contract
2. Resignation
3. Retrenchment/VSS etc
4. Abscondment
5. Dismissal due to misconduct
6. Poor performance
7. Retirement
Each of the above require different approach and process. So depending on what's the cause of termination, it can be done only if due process has been followed.
The excuse of no work done during MCO is however tricky. Managers need to find options for their teams to work from home. Unless the company is suffering losses that may lead to a winding up. Termination should not be considered without a justified cause and only be done as a last resort upon applying all other cost reduction and workforce management measures.
